Some Erroneous Perceptions and Behaviours among Youth A case study over a sample of students at an intermediate school (Abd Allah Bin Gafar) – Jeddah

Abstract


The study aims at detecting some erroneous perceptions and behaviors among youth, and to mention the prominent solutions for those erroneous behaviors. The researcher used the descriptive method for the case study. This study follows the qualitative analysis for data collection, analysis and display. The study population is all the students of Abd Allah Bin Gafar intermediate school – South Jeddah of total size (304) students, and the sample size is 30 students equally distributed (10) students from each class, and the sample was purposively drown. The study has been conducted within the second term of the academic year 1436 AH., and the researcher used the in-depth interview tool, which contained open questions to gather as much data on the study problem.

The study reached several results, some of which are; the most prominent and widespread misconceptions, the students are believe on, are; smoking, Tafheet (drifting), quarrel, and graffiti, where some students believe on smoking as it makes them feel manhood by imitating adults, and they believe toward Tafheet as it is enjoyable and very exciting and makes them feel brave, and their believe toward quarrel as for taking right and lifting injustice, and about graffiti, they believe that by writing the BB code they can acquaint votaries or it is an expression of injustice and oppression towards a teacher.

About the erroneous behaviors, the study found many behaviors prevailing among students such as (Snuff, Tobacco, Almst, Al-Shamma, Smoking), in addition to Tafheet, graffiti and sexual harassments, in addition to tossing shoes, and playing during prayers.

The study reached, through the interview with students, some solutions from the prospect of the interviewees for treating the erroneous perceptions and behaviors, such as; advice and guidance, and then deducting marks of behavior and notify the guardian, and if the student didn't modify his erroneous behavior, he should be deprived of studying, so, not to be a spoiler member of the other students. The study concluded with some recommendations – the researcher think that they may contribute in treating those erroneous perceptions and behaviors the intermediate level's students do practice.
