Systematic Review: Project Management and Risk Management
Abstract
Integrating project management and risk management is considered one of the critical factors for achieving sustainable project success by reducing potential risks and leveraging opportunities. Knowledge domains contribute to enhancing project performance and predicting potential risks. It has become essential to adopt modern tools, techniques, and the technical and managerial skills of project professionals. Therefore, a study was conducted on project management and risk management, highlighting their development and importance in enhancing the achievement of institutional goals.
The study adopted a descriptive methodology using content analysis, where academic documents and published research were reviewed and analyzed through accredited scientific sources such as Google Scholar, Science Direct, the Saudi Digital Library (SDL), Dar Almandumah Database, Emerald Database, IEEE Database, and Wiley Online Database. The study identified the main axes of both fields and traced their development over time.
The study's subject boundaries included project management and risk management, while the formal boundaries focused on scientific production published in theses, books, research, conferences, and workshops. The temporal boundaries extended from 1986 to 2024, emphasizing literature published in both Arabic and English. The spatial boundaries covered relevant studies at both local and international levels. The study emphasizes that collaboration between academics and practitioners plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between theory and practice in the field of project management and risk management. This collaboration contributes to the development of integrated strategies that address contemporary challenges. The study recommended utilizing research published in reliable databases to enhance the quality of managerial decisions and increase the competitiveness of organizations in a dynamic work environment.
