The reality of using information and communication technology to support knowledge sharing in international airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: a case study

Abstract


The study aimed at identifying the reality of the use of information and communication technology to support knowledge sharing in international airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. By applying a case study to those Saudi airports in the field of transportation; To know the status quo using information and communication technology (ICT) in supporting knowledge sharing in those airports of great economic importance in the Kingdom. And it was conducted as a survey study in order to know the reality through one of the scientific research tools, which is the questionnaire. The study relied on the descriptive survey method. The study population consisted of (463) managers, and a random sample of (231) managers was selected. Data of (135) questionnaires were analyzed, and they were retrieved after distributing (231) questionnaires. After analyzing the data he collected, the study concluded a set of results about the reality of using information and communication technology in support of knowledge sharing, the most important of which are: The reality of using information and communication technology in international airports in the Kingdom is going positively, as the application of information and communication technology contributes to supporting the participation of administrations airports under study; Especially using applications and networks such as e-mail and WhatsApp, and networks: the Internet, the intranet, and the extranet. The study revealed that there are best practices for applying information and communication technology in support of knowledge sharing; Including the practice of recording and documenting ideas and suggestions in meetings to share them with one of the media and communication technology. The use of WhatsApp, the Internet, the Intranet, and the Extranet in facilitating the exchange, transfer and sharing of knowledge among workers, as well as workers’ acquisition of new experiences and knowledge through the means of information and communication technology in sharing knowledge, the most important of which are: weak infrastructure and adequate technical support for media and communication technology, The working individuals lack sufficient skills to use the means and tools of information and communication technology. The study recommended the need for the senior management of each airport to enhance the awareness and awareness aspect of the importance of the role of information and communication technology in supporting knowledge sharing, and to pay attention to the development of tools, means, applications and networks of information and communication technology used in knowledge sharing, and to overcome the difficulties and obstacles facing the application of information and communication technology in knowledge sharing. Develop flexible internal policies and procedures at international airports administrations that allow all employees to use information and communication technology to share knowledge. The researchers also recommend conducting more studies related to the subject of the study with the aim of enriching Arab intellectual production on the use of information and communication technology in support of knowledge sharing in organizations.
