The impact of the application of essential safety requirement (ESR) on the performance of health organizations: Study at the Tamir General Hospital - 50 beds capacity

Abstract


The occupational safety and health standards represent a set of local and global rules and guidelines that must be found at health institutions. These standards were set to reduce risks and preserve human safety and health by providing safe working environments and free of causes of accidents, injuries or occupational diseases. And in actual fact, this aspect is also a matter of concern to the Saudi government for the quality of healthcare services in public and private hospitals.

This study is aimed to identify the impact of the application of essential safety requirement (ESR) on the performance of health organizations. The descriptive analytical approach was used, due to its compatibility with the objectives of the study and its procedures; and the population and sample was obtained from the administrative and medical staff at the Tamir General Hospital. The questionnaires were reviewed, coded and analyzed by the Statistical Analysis Program (SPSS), and the arithmetic means and standard deviations were used to describe the study sample opinions and trends on the effect of applying ESR on the performance of health organizations. As well, the Pearson correlation and Alpha Cronbach coefficient were used to test the validity of the tool and the stability of the tool, respectively.

The results of this study revealed that the application of ESR providing a feeling of safety and confidence in the hospital, along with its contribution in motivating the employees to develop and improve. Furthermore, the adherence to the ESR leads to raising the level of hospital personnel and boosting the focus on providing an appropriate environment for its employees. The study also showed that (CBAHI) helps hospitals to implement basic safety standards within the hospital.

Finally, the researcher recommends in the necessity of providing healthcare services according to the ESR at an intermediate level, together with an appropriate hospital design which helps to achieve ESR. In addition to that, it recommends to conduct courses for qualifying the employees on how to benefit from the CBAHI standards in work field.
