The Effect of Management Information Systems in King Abdulaziz University on Decision-making Support: (My Meetings) System as a Model

Abstract


This study focuses on the role of Management Information Systems in decision-making support through using of (My Meetings) System. The study problem is identified in the impact of MIS in decision-making support through (My Meetings) System at King Abdulaziz University and the main obstacles that facing the users of this System and the most important ways to help develop it in the future. The importance of the study deals with the subject of Management Information Systems and the extent of its application in King Abdulaziz University through the implementation of the digital meetings system and the decisions emanating from them, and how that will help (My Meetings) to develop positive performance; which will undoubtedly reflect on the boards of departments and colleges more productively. The study, also, aims to define the most important obstacles and difficulties that prevent the benefit from it.

This study based on Case Study Methodology. The study data were collected by means of questionnaires. The research sample included the teaching staff and administrators at faculties, deanships and different administrations at King Abdulaziz University.

In its applied aspect, the study reveals many results, which are represented in the following points:

1- Management Information Systems as an effective tool in decision-making within the organization, through enabling us to carry out the planning, control and direction process.

2- The administrative information systems have a positive effect in supporting decision-making at King Abdulaziz University, as a (My Meetings) System is considered to be one of these administrative systems that decision-makers tend to use it inside the university.

3- The more use of (My Meetings) System, the easier it will be to complete transactions, and therefore the more satisfied the beneficiaries of this system will get values.

4- The more use of (My Meetings) System at King Abdulaziz University, the less reliance on traditional methods such as paper transactions in order to complete their work, professionally.

This study also ends with lots of number of recommendations that can contribute to support decision-making in using Management Information Systems. They are summarized as follows:

1- Developing the system of (My Meetings) in a way that allows the rest of the faculties, deanships and administrations to benefit from the services provided by the system, which contributes to raise the efficiency of productivity more and more.

2- Completing the rest of the steps for accrediting the minutes of these meetings by the higher management, automatically. As it is without the assistance of raising the records in papers for their approval.

3- To include the preset templates for the topics of the frequent meetings in the system, which will facilitate the users of the system as to save extra time and more efforts.

4- Generalizing the use of (My Meetings) System for the rest of the colleges, deanships, and departments in order to unify the way the university works on, in relation to holding all meetings as well as implementing its recommendations to be well applicable.
