Strategic Planning for knowledge management In Higher Education Institutions in Saudi Arabia

Abstract

This study has sought to recognize the status quo of implementing strategic planningof knowledge management at higher education institutions in KSA in terms of (organizationaland technological structure and human resources). The study depended on Delphi method toextract the main elements of strategic planning of knowledge management and in determiningthe requirements of implementing the organizational, human, and technological knowledgemanagement. Additionally a survey method was used to recognize the status quo ofimplementing strategic planning of knowledge management at the institutions of highereducation in KSA represented in the sample of study (King Abdul-Aziz University, King FahdUniversity of Petroleum and Minerals, Princess Nora University, and Alfiasal University) and toidentify the availability of requirements of knowledge management implementation therein. Themost important results of the study was that strategic planning of knowledge management atinstitutions of higher education in KSA is available at 62.5%; while the study reveal thatimplementation requirements of knowledge management at institutions of higher education isgreatly available at 78.75% and during the time that technological structure of knowledgemanagement is also greatly available at 84.85% , human resources of knowledge managementare available at 78.25%, and organizational structure of knowledge management is available at73.25%. The study results indicated that universities, for the nature of their goals, theirresponsibilities in development of community and their exercised functions, and their mainstrong knowledge structure represented in the availability of human management and theexistence of high organizational and technical structure, need to spend more efforts in strategicplanning of knowledge management to achieve a good leap in knowledge management. Thestudy introduced a sample for strategic planning of knowledge management at institutions ofhigher education in KSA focused on the basic stages for strategic planning of knowledgemanagement at institutions of higher education in KSA, besides knowledge managementimplementation requirements.
